The catalyst for the Toronto Christie Pits riot of August 16th, 1933 was a complex cocktail of events: the Great Depression, anti-semitism, the rise of Adolph Hitler & Nazism and xenophobic resentment of "foreigners" in Canada.

Gordon Cherry was born in Toronto and moved to Vancouver in 1974 with his wife Joyce to perform with the Vancouver Symphony, CBC Radio Orchestra & teach at UBC. He retired from full time work in 2009 but is still very busy as a publisher of music & performer, teacher.
