As a Mental Health Clinician over the past 25 years, I have dealt with a lot of youth, parents and children who exhibit anxiety. Half of those years I have worked in a Jewish Day School setting. In my talk I will present the causes of anxiety and how it is treated. I will illustrate some of my techniques through personal case studies. I will then look into the ideas of suffering and neuroses as portrayed in the Yiddish language. I will then look at the role of humour in dealing with suffering as illustrated by Jewish Jokes. I will conclude with a discussion on how my Jewish clients dealt with anxiety and whether we are more prone to it than the general population.
