Susan Shamash

Rabbi Susan Shamash was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan and grew up in Edmonton, Alberta.  She graduated from the University of Alberta with a BA Honours in Political Science in 1972 and from the University of British Columbia with an LLB in 1980.  In between degrees she traveled in Israel and southern Europe and worked as a social worker in Peace River, Alberta and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Susan had a long and fulfilling career as an administrative lawyer, serving as a Vice Chair, Registrar and Tribunal Counsel in the workers' compensation appellate system for 25 years.  She retired in early 2010 and immediately began to pursue Rabbinic studies with the ALEPH Ordination Programs.  She was ordained by ALEPH:  Alliance for Jewish Renewal in January 2017. Susan is an active member of Or Shalom Synagogue, Vancouver's East Side Renewal Shul, where she loves to lead services, read Torah and teach a monthly Talmud class.  She lives in Vancouver with her husband, Yom and her dog, Dulce.
